Expectations of a New Day
I have been waiting for this day to arrive since that warm October day when I got a call telling me that I was definitely going to Jos, Nigeria. Today, it's been a day of hurry up and wait. We hurried through packing and cleaning the house. We hurried to the airport.
A little snag here, a little help there, and we were back to waiting, but at least this time we were waiting in line to check in. The unimaginable potential of this trip has us all so excited that if we were puppies, our whole bodies would be wagging. Everyone is all smiles, even as we haul two, 50-pound suitcases and carry on. As the only woman in the group, I suppose I have a certain way of looking at this experience that may differ from the ten men I travel with.
Different is good. We have quite a diverse group of creative, intelligent and courageous hopefuls who are setting out to inspire-- and most definitely, perspire-- in the some of the neediest areas of Nigeria. Most of the men will be setting up a hydroponic garden system that will help feed lots of hungry people. My husband, Stacy Doose, will be using his talent as a videographer to record this amazing event. I am going in high hopes that my skills and 25 years of experience as an early childhood educator will be of service to the brave souls who live their ministry every day, providing a learning environment in a third world Country.
Right now, I'm just one of the guys....kinda.
